Vehicle Plows Through Crowd On Bourbon Street

Superintendent of Police for the New Orleans Police Department Anne Kirkpatrick makes a statement after a vehicle drove into a crowd on New Orleans' Canal and Bourbon Street, Wednesday Jan. 1, 2025.

Early Wednesday morning, a disturbing incident unfolded on Bourbon Street as a vehicle plowed through a crowd, leaving witnesses in shock and disbelief. Alex Birth-Mitchell, who was present during the chaos, expressed his gratitude for surviving the harrowing ordeal.

Recounting the events, Birth-Mitchell revealed that he had been partaking in New Year's celebrations along Bourbon Street, hopping between various establishments. The tranquility of the night was shattered when a truck careened through the crowd, causing pandemonium and confusion.

Describing the scene as 'absolute chaos,' Birth-Mitchell detailed how he and others were confined to a club for hours following the incident. The French Quarter was placed on lockdown, prompting a tense and uncertain atmosphere among those present.

Remarkably, Birth-Mitchell credited his survival to fortuitously being inside the club at the time of the tragedy. He speculated that having wristbands from earlier in the night allowed him and his friends to bypass the line, potentially sparing them from the dire consequences of being outside during the vehicular rampage.

The aftermath of the incident left Birth-Mitchell and others grappling with the shock and trauma of the unexpected violence that marred what should have been a joyous occasion. As investigations into the incident continue, the community is left to reflect on the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing each moment.
