Vegan 'almost in tears' after biting into Burger King nugget made of real chicken

A vegan woman said she was left "almost in tears" after accidentally biting into a Burger King nugget that she thought was plant-based, but was actually real chicken.

Lianna Hutchins, from Bournemouth, placed an order for her family at the fast food restaurant in Castle Lane East, on October 14.

The customer said she felt "sick" when she took a bite and realised it was not a vegan nugget, as the smell and texture were different from what she expected.

She said she then contacted the restaurant, but claimed the manager was "dismissive".

Miss Hutchins eventually received a refund covering the cost of the chicken nuggets, which was £5, but not the rest of the items which she couldn't eat as she felt sick.

The woman told the Daily Echo : "When I ate it and realised, it made me feel sick. I was nearly in tears. I have health issues as well, so I don’t want to be putting meat in my body.

"I chewed on the nugget and I thought to myself this doesn't taste vegan."

Miss Hutchins said despite getting a partial refund, the Burger King branch did not take the incident seriously.

She added her family meal had been "ruined" because she was planning to spend time with her relatives but had to leave the room and go upstairs to talk to the head office on the phone.

She also claimed a similar incident happened to her mum and dad in the 90s and they received compensation for it.

A spokesperson for Burger King said the company apologises for the incident and the impact it has had on the customer.

The company added that it will work to ensure all necessary measures and staff training are put in place.

Burger King said: "After further investigation, Burger King® UK believes all the appropriate steps were taken, and there were no signs of cross-contamination."

The Mirror has approached Burger King for further comment.
