Following on from their fantastic midweek comeback win against Winsford United at The VanEupen Arena, Vauxhall Motors are back in action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Swallownest for their first FA Vase game of the 2022-23 campaign.
Last season, Motors failed to get past the first round of the FA Vase as they were defeated 2-1 at home to North Shields on 23rd October 2021.
Swallownest, who have been managed on a permanent basis by Alex Nightingale since March 2021, were also defeated in the first round of the Vase last season as Birtley Town won 3-1 at the Miners Welfare Ground which has been the home ground of Swallownest since 2008.

The President of the club is Mick Kent, who has spoken on numerous occasions about the club’s wishes to field a young team to ensure that the future of the club is successful and the Chairman is Martin Morton.
Nightingale’s side play in the NCEL Division One and have picked up six points from their opening six games, with two wins. On their last time out, they were defeated 5-2 at home against Horbury Town as Liam Frost and Taylor Nicholson got themselves on the scoresheet.
Frost is the current top goal scorer for The Nest, who play in dark blue, as he has netted twice this campaign and the club will be aiming to better last season’s league table finish of 18th.
Swallownest were founded in 2006, as they were originally named Aston FC in the South Yorkshire Amateur League. They later changed their name to Swallownest Miners Welfare before renaming themselves after the social club which sits behind the goal, in 2015.
It’s important to note, that this club has no official links to the club of the same name who played in the Yorkshire League between 1960 and 1971. However, Swallownest have been successful in their own right with their last three honours being two Sheffield and Hallamshire County Senior League Premier Division wins in 2011 and 2017 after being promoted from the S+H County Senior League Division One in 2010.
Their sole cup success remains being the runners up of the South Yorkshire Amateur League Cup in 2008. Thus, they will be heading into Saturday’s game with the hopes of adding a further achievement to their very short club history which started in 2006.
