Vauxhall Motors crash out of FA Cup after defeat to Whitchurch Alport

Vauxhall Motors were eliminated from the FA Cup after a 2-0 defeat to Whitchurch Alport on Saturday.

The first half was, in terms of shots on target, dominated by the hosts and they would hit the bar early on as they progressed forward on the right hand side.

It was a well worked chance and the reds would continue to cause Mick McGraa's defence bother.

There were shouts for a card to be given as tempers flared, Lewis Buckley the man who put in the contentious tackle. However, no card was given.

Motors would create some half chances but the Alport keeper remained relatively untested, his side gaining the lead when a brilliant ball from the left caught the Motors defence napping.

It was Alex Hughes with the goal as he struck powerfully past the recently signed McClenaghan.

He would net his second soon after, from the penalty spot as Ben Holmes left the referee with no option other than to award the spot kick.

Jordan Deer was gifted a perfect opportunity to level the scoreline early into the second half. However, his shot struck the keeper's legs who had dived low. The shot was brought on by brilliant link up play by Adam Smith.

Motors continued their search for an equaliser but they would become frustrated as they would find no success when going forwards.

The first yellow card would be awarded to Alport, not the frustrated visitors when the reds' number four kicked out at Deer. The subsequent set piece fell to Marcus James who lashed his effort over the bar.

Motors forward Bobbie McDonnell, who replaced Aaron Dawson, twice found himself with the ball in a promising area just inside the box. However, both of his efforts would fire past the post.

Growing frustrated, manager McGraa would receive a booking before a good shot was struck by sub Francis Antoine. The effort was tipped round the post forcing a corner.

Other than a few shots by the hosts, which either went over the bar or took a deflection for a corner there was little to mention in the dying moments of the game as Motors were knocked out of the FA Cup two goals to nil.

Following the ninety, McGraa said "Today was one game too far for us, we couldn't be expected to be fully fit after Thursday night's league game at Lower Breck".

James McClenaghan, Ethan Gouldbourne, Liam Turner, Marcus James, Joseph Heath, Aaron Dawson (53'), Michael Burkey (73') , Ben Holmes, Lewis Buckley (63'), Jordan Deer, Adam Smith.

Subs: McDonnell (53') Antoine (63'), Moscrop, Eaton (73'), Cooper, Drummond.
