Vasilis Barkas in 'not one blunder' verdict as Celtic keeper makes Utrecht 'prove myself' admission

Vasilis Barkas hasn't had 'one blunder' since his time at FC Utrecht according to the Celtic keeper's team-mates.

The Greece international found life at Parkhead off to a tough start from his hefty £4.5million price tag lifting expectations of the stopper hitting the ground running in Glasgow. But Neil Lennon's men suffered in his first season between the posts and Barkas was dislodged as the number one upon Ange Postecoglou's arrival with Joe Hart slotting in comfortably.

The 28-year-old was shipped off to Holland with Utrecht on loan this season and has made an impact despite the Dutch side admitting they won't make his switch a permanent one. That leaves Barkas on his way back to Glasgow at the end of the season and the stopper admits he doesn't have to 'prove' himself.

He told Voetbal International: "My behaviour was very normal. I know what I can do and I don't have to prove myself. Only at the weekend (during games), not on the training field. Everything revolves around your mind. That's how I used to be."

Team-mate Tasos Douvikas also insists the goalie hasn't got a blunder in him despite some branding him a slop at Celtic Park. He added: “Vasilis knows what he is doing. He has saved us several times this season.

"I can't remember one blunder. Not one. He's incredibly consistent. We feel safe with him on target. Maybe he is too good for FC Utrecht.”
