VAR missed second neck grab in 20-man Man Utd and Crystal Palace brawl

Fresh footage of the brawl that erupted during Manchester United 's win over Crystal Palace appears to show the refereeing team missed a second neck grab.

United star Casemiro was sent off after Video Assistant Referee Tony Harrington directed Andre Marriner to check the pitch-side monitor. Marriner was then shown footage of Casemiro grabbing the neck of Will Hughes, for which he received a red card.

Jeffery Schlupp and Antony were also both booked in the aftermath of the incident, though that is where Marriner stopped pulling out cards. But there was plenty going on in the brawl, with several players risking severe punishment from Marriner.

One of those incidents saw a second neck grab, which happened as Casemiro simultaneously grabbed Hughes. Jordan Ayew and Fred were at the centre of this second incident, with the United star's hand first appearing to touch Schlupp's face.

As Marcus Rashford attempts to hold Schlupp back, Ayew charges in and shoves Fred away. As Ayew then spins slightly, he reaches forward and appears to grab Fred by the neck momentarily.

The duo then grab each other's shirt before Ayew again raises his arm to Fred's face. As they continue to lock to each other, Raphael Varane attempts to break them up, eventually succeeding.

It is not known if Harrington reviewed the incident as he did Casemiro's own grab on Hughes. United boss Erik ten Hag revealed following his side's win that they would consider appealing against Casemiro's sending off and even pointed to similar instances of controversy in the brawl.

"They pick one player out, so I think they could have picked more players in such an incident and then the VAR is interfering. This is what I don't understand because then you have to be consistent," he said.

"I have so many occasions this season where they didn't interfere so I was disappointed but we have to take it. Our players have to behave, they have to control their emotions, but I'm happy that we have the spirit and we stand for each other.

"First of all, we have to deal with it and we will do, but it is not right. It shouldn't have happened. This was avoidable and because in this incident there have to be consequences and they are inconsistent and that is not right, that is not fair against us.

"We have to think about [appealing]. But be fair, we have seen when you're freezing (the frame), Casemiro is crossing the line. But many more players were crossing the line there."

Casemiro is now set to miss United's next three games, which consist of a double-header against Leeds and a clash with Leicester. Ayew meanwhile is likely to be available for Palace as they look to rediscover their form.
