A resident in Swansea has been left fuming after his vehicle was smashed into by a van driver who assessed the damage he’d caused before calmly getting back behind the wheel and driving off. The incident happened in Tyn-Y-Waun Road in the Llansamlet area of the city on Friday, January 20. At around 9.35am a white van came around a corner and crashed into the back of a grey Nissan X-Trail which was parked on the side of the road. The Nissan belongs to Paul Blackmore, 64, who noticed the damage caused to his vehicle and then checked the footage from a security camera set up outside his home. In the footage you can clearly see the driver of the van reverse back before parking at the side of the road. The man then gets out of the van and walks towards the X-Trail before looking at the damage caused first to his own van and then to the vehicle he crashed into.
To the horror of Mr Blackmore, the driver has a quick look around before getting back into the van and slowly driving away, leaving the scene without knocking on any doors or leaving a note to explain what had just happened. Mr Blackmore has now appealed for anyone who recognises the white van to get in touch with him and has even offered a £100 reward for information.
“He came around the corner and straight into the back of my car,” he said. “The car is a write-off – the chassis has gone. I’m waiting for it to be picked up. I’m disabled so I need a car – I can’t go anywhere without one. I had to borrow money so that I could get a new one.”
Mr Blackmore has reported the incident to South Wales Police and a spokesman for the force said: "We received a report of a road traffic collision which happened in Tyn-y-Waun Road in Llansamlet at around 9.35am on January 20 involving a parked car and a van. Unfortunately it has not been possible to identify the van or the driver from CCTV in the area. The owner of the damaged car has been advised that they should contact their insurance company."
