The Government’s chief scientific adviser has said it is “disappointing” that Downing Street and Whitehall officials did not stick to the rules aimed at preventing Covid.

Sir Patrick Vallance, 62, was one of the key scientists who updated the public through televised Downing Street briefings during the pandemic, sometimes alongside Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
