Vagina Museum searching for new home as east London property guardianship ends

The Vagina Museum is facing having to find a new home after receiving a notice to vacate its Bethnal Green site.

The quirky museum, which started as a series of pop-up events in 2017, opened its doors to the public for the first time in 2019 with a permanent premises in Camden Market.

It attracted more than 100,000 visitors before closing and later reopening in Bethnal Green on Victoria Park Square last March.

But bosses were left disappointed after being told to vacate the property this week. The museum will open to the public for the last time at the site on Wednesday 1st February.

Management say it will “continue to operate in the digital world” while they search for a new home.

In a statement, the Vagina Museum said: “We’re sad about this development, but incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished in the ten months we’ve been at our Bethnal Green premises. We’ve welcomed more than 40,000 visitors through our doors, and received so much love and positive feedback.

“In our time at Bethnal Green, we’ve once again demonstrated just how much the world needs and wants a Vagina Museum.

“Times are, once again, uncertain for us, but we’ve been through this before and risen stronger than ever. With a community like you supporting us, we know we can get through this too.”

The Vagina Museum bills itself as the world’s first brick-and-mortar museum dedicated to vaginas, vulvas and the female anatomy.

Anyone with a vacant space has been urged to get in touch. Members of the public who wish to make a donation can do so here - Donate — Vagina Museum
