MUSSOORIE: Trainee officers at Mussoorie-based Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) along with the Eco Task Force planted 1,000 tree saplings around Nag Temple to mark the World Environment Day. Separately, the Mussoorie forest department conducted a cleanliness drive near Kempty Falls and cleaned up 140 kg of plastic waste. The cleanliness drive was organised in partnership with the Make My Trip foundation and “Waste Warriors” social organisation.
Srinivas R Katikithala, LBSNAA director who took part in the plantation drive, said, “I urge everyone to take steps to protect the environment. People should also remain vigilant of tree felling.”
Speaking on the cleanliness drive near Kempty Falls, Kahkashan Naseem, divisional forest officer of Mussoorie, said, “The purpose of today’s (June 5) drive was to make the tourists aware that random disposal of waste should be avoided and non-biodegradable waste should be properly disposed of.”
Meanwhile, about 100 people from Dehradun and New Delhi reached Dewalsari on Sunday for the ongoing Butterfly festival. On Sunday, the third day of the festival, nearly 40 varieties of butterflies were spotted. “I am impressed and bewildered by all the work that is being done here. The passion among people for nature here is unparalleled. I have thoroughly enjoyed the Dewalsari festival. I urge everyone to visit this festival,” said Arjabh (who goes by his first name), a Solan-based student currently studying in Canada.
