Ex-Uttarakhand minister Rajendra Bahuguna climbs water tank, shoots himself dead

DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand roadways union leader, Rajendra Bahuguna, 59, who was accused by his daughter-in-law of molesting his granddaughter three days ago, climbed on a water tank on Wednesday and shot himself dead as police and passersby watched in horror. Bahuguna was associated with the Congress and was even given the status of minister of state in the ND Tiwari government for a year from 2004 to 2005.

Senior superintendent of police (Nainital) Pankaj Bhatt told TOI on Thursday that Bahuguna was recently booked under the Pocso Act on the complaint of his daughter-in-law. He had himself called '112' (emergency number) before climbing on to the water tank in Bhagat Singh Colony of Haldwani, Bhatt said.
