DEHRADUN: In the wake of an advisory issued by the ministry of home affairs (MHA) on the possible threat to the ongoing kanwar yatra from "radical elements", security agencies in Uttarakhand have increased vigil on the pilgrimage route to Haridwar.
"The alert was issued by the MHA and the Intelligence Bureau (IB) following the recent communal incidents and the threat issued by Al Qaeda over the Nupur Sharma episode. Acting on it, we have increased security on the kanwar yatra route. We are monitoring the major temples, railway stations and bus terminals frequented by kanwariyas," a senior police officer, on condition of anonymity, told TOI on Saturday.
