DEHRADUN: One more body was recovered on Friday from the NTPC tunnel at the Tapovan-Vishnugad hydropower project site in Chamoli, which was ravaged by the flash flood caused due to glacier burst in February last year.
“The decomposed body was found by the relief and rescue teams 650 metres inside the tunnel. As soon as we received the information, a team from the Tapovan police outpost was sent to the spot. The process to identify the victim is ongoing,” Shweta Choubey, SP Chamoli, told TOI.
The development has pushed the toll of the calamity to 207. Out of these victims, 140 were NTPC employees. They got choked after slush from the flash flood filled the tunnel. The flash flood in Rishiganga and Dhauli Ganga rivers completely damaged the Rishiganga hydel project and partially affected the 550 MW Tapovan project.
