Kasganj: At least 24 pilgrims were killed and several others injured after a tractor-trolley, in which they were travelling, fell into a pond on Patiyali-Dariyavganj road here, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
The deceased include 13 women and 8 children. The injured have been admitted to the nearby hospitals.
The pilgrims were headed to Kadarganj to take a holy dip in the river Ganga when the accident occurred.
After this horrific accident, the sheet of gloom has covered the kins and near ones of the victims.
As soon as information about the incident was received, District Magistrate Sudha Verma and SP Aparna Rajat Kaushik rushed to the spot to supervise the relief and rescue work.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed deep anguish over the incident and has announced a compensation of Rs2L to the kin of each deceased and Rs50,000 for each injured.
