Uttar Pradesh: Siblings held with 700 live cartridges

LUCKNOW: Two persons were nabbed by Government Railway Police of Tundla station while they were attempting to smuggle 700 live rounds of assault rifle and shotgun.

Additional chief secretary Avnish Awasthi rewarded the GRP team led by SHO Yogendra Yadav with Rs 1 lakh cash, while superintendent of police GRP Agra division Mohammad Mustaque announced a reward of Rs 20,000 for the team.

The accused were identified as siblings Shahdab (32) and Faizan (20) of Firozabad. They were attempting to board a Bihar-bound train to smuggle the ammunition.

SP GRP Agra division Mohammad Mustaque said the duo was caught during routine checking from platform number 7.”

“The duo was in contact with the illegal cartridge manufacturer of Amroha and those who wanted to buy them in Prayagraj and in Bihar. During questioning, they confessed to smuggling the ammunition earlier as well. Since Shahdab is differently abled he used to smuggle the ammunition in specially-abled passenger train coaches and no train staff or cops would raise doubt on them,” said SP.
