LUCKNOW: Here is some sweet news. Uttar Pradesh has made sugarcane price payment of Rs 29,000 crore as against a target of Rs 35,000 crore for the crushing season 2021-22 – the highest rate of cane price payment made in at least the past two decades.
According to sugar cane development department data, out of 120 operating sugar mills, as many as 60% (almost 75 mills) have made 100% payment for the cane procured from farmers. Rest of the mills have paid between 40% and 60% of the total due cane dues. The cane crushing season came to a close in May end after which the state government stepped up pressure on the private millers to clear their dues.
