Bareilly: Four workers were charred to death and three others were injured in a major fire in a foam factory in Fareedpur area of Bareilly district, police said here on Thursday.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over loss of lives in the fire incident. He has directed the district officials to speed up the relief work and to take the injured immediately to the hospital and provide them proper treatment.
Superintendent of Police (Rural) Raj Kumar Agarwal said that there is a factory near Megi Nagla on Lucknow highway where foam mattresses, plastic furniture and other items are manufactured. "The factory caught fire late on Wednesday evening after which the entire premises turned into a fireball. Deaths of four persons have been confirmed of which two have been identified," he said.
He said that a search operation is being carried out to ensure that no one else is buried under the debris. "The relatives of the deceased and injured have been asked to file their case. People injured in the accident have been admitted to the hospital for treatment," he said.
Police sources said that by the time fire tenders reached the spot the entire factory was engulfed in fire. "Around 50 employees were working in the factory at the time of the incident. Even though the employees somehow managed to escape, three including Babloo, Jitendra and Deshraj sustained serious burn injuries and have been admitted to the hospital," they said.
Circle Officer (CO) Fareedpur Gaurav Singh said that the two deceased have been identified as Arvind Kumar Mishra and Rakesh. "Efforts are being made to ascertain the identity of two other deceased.
Fire Officer Sanjeev Yadav said that the area is still simmering. "Some persons may be buried under the debris. Two fire tenders have been stationed on the spot to douse the fire completely," he said. (with UNI inputs)
