Uttar Pradesh elections: 6 independent candidates protest rejection of papers in Aligarh

AGRA: Six Independent candidates staged a protest at the residence of Aligarh district magistrate Selva Kumari J on Monday after their nomination papers for the Barauli constituency were rejected during the scrutiny. Of the 13 independent nominations filed for the constituency, six were rejected.

The candidates, and others who joined them, blocked the road demanding justice. One of the women candidates blocked the movement of the DM’s car by lying down on the road. Women police personnel removed her.

They alleged that their papers were rejected deliberately. They alleged that they were allowed to make rectifications till 11 am but officials were not available even as they reached the office at 9.45 am.

ADM (city) Rakesh Kumar Patel said, “The RO rejected the nomination papers due to discrepancies and notices were duly served to the candidates. Six nomination papers were rejected during the scrutiny process. The RO’s decision is final, no one can challenge it.”
