Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath for transparent wheat procurement

LUCKNOW: To ensure smooth procurement of wheat during the rabi marketing season 2022-23 beginning April 1, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to maintain utmost transparency in the procurement process.

Addressing the first meeting with officials after assuming the office for the second consecutive time, he said, “The officers would have to ensure that farmers do not face problem at purchase centres. Adequate arrangement should be made at the godowns or purchasing centres for the protection of crops.” He also laid stress on ensuring benefit of MSP to farmers. The CM made it clear that every farmer should be paid the price of their produce in a time-bound manner.

Meanwhile, the wheat procurement will begin at 6,000 centres from April 1. This year, the Yogi government has set a target of procuring 60 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of wheat on a fixed MSP of Rs 2,015 per quintal.

According to the officials, it would be mandatory for every farmer to register on the food department's portal https://fcs.up.gov.in/ for the sale of wheat at government procurement centres. The farmers will be paid the price of wheat in their bank accounts. Thus, it is mandatory to share the active bank account in the registration details.

The purchase will be done on the basis of biometric verification of farmers or their authorised representative through e-pop at the centres.
