Uttar Pradesh: 3 get 20-yr jail for raping minor girl in 2015

MEERUT: A special protection of child against sexual offences (POCSO) court in Bulandshahr awarded 20 years of jail term to three persons accused of raping a minor girl in 2015.

The court of additional sessions judge (Pocso – II), Tarun Kumar Singh, pronounced the judgement on Thursday evening and also imposed a fine of Rs 30, 000 each on the three convicts.

Additional district government counsel (ADGC) Sunil Kumar Sharma said, “The incident occurred on July 18, 2015, when the three men, Sumandev, Atul and Mohd Shahid, residents of Aligarh, raped a 15-year-old girl, a resident of the Chhatari police station area, by taking her hostage when she had gone from home to the farm in the morning to defecate. Police filed a case of gang rape against them and they were arrested a few days after the crime. The judgement was pronounced after eight years of cross-examination and testimony of witnesses.”

(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
