Uttar Pradesh: 17-yr-old held for pregnant teacher’s murder in Ayodhya

AYODHYA: A month later, police claimed to have worked out the infamous brutal murder of a pregnant government teacher that took place on June 1 in Ayodhya when chief minister Yogi Adityanath was in the temple town.

Police claimed that the murder was committed by a 17-year-old boy who was the lover of the deceased woman who was 35. According to police, the youth, who lived in the same locality, wanted to end the relationship, but the woman was insistent.

On June 1, the five months pregnant teacher was brutally murdered after being stabbed multiple times with a sharp-edged weapon in Srirampuram Colony of Ayodhya Kotwali police station area when the victim was alone at her house.

The teacher, Supriya Verma, resident of Pathanpur Atrauli of Jalalpur police station area in Ambedkarnagar district, used to live in Ayodhya with her husband and mother. She was posted at Askaranpur primary school in Bikapur tehsil of Ayodhya district. Her husband Umesh Verma is also a government teacher.

Ayodhya SSP Shailesh Pandey said, “Fearing ill-repute and opposition from his family, the minor boy wanted to come out of the relationship he had with that teacher, but the woman was insistent to continue it.”

“He entered the house and killed the teacher with a sharp-edged rod. To make it look like a case of loot, he stole Rs 50,000 cash and some other valuables after breaking open an almirah in the victim’s room,” the SSP said.

Ayodhya DIG AK Singh said, “A CCTV footage near the murder site gave us a grainy visual of a man wearing a t-shirt with a brand name embossed on his back. The police tracked all the online deliveries of the brand in the city and connected the dots to arrive at the boy’s door.”
