Utrecht 'doing everything' to keep Celtic flop Vasilis Barkas as other clubs show transfer interest

Utrecht are 'doing everything' possible to keep Vasilis Barkas beyond his Celtic loan - but he's got a number of other interest clubs.

Owner of the Dutch outfit Frans van Seumeren has provided an update on the £4.5million Hoops flop, who has turned his fortunes around in the Netherlands. Neil Lennon brought in the Greece international from AEK Athens after losing both Fraser Forster and Craig Gordon in the same summer.

Ange Postecoglou quickly brought Joe Hart to the club when he arrived and Barkas was demoted to No3 with Scott Bain playing the back up role to the England international. Benjamin Siegrist has since joined and with his chances highly unlikely, a loan switch to the Eredivisie was sanctioned.

Now his current club want to do all they can to retain the goalkeeper - who still has a further season to run on his current deal in Glasgow.

Van Seumeren said: "As a club, we are doing everything we can to keep Vasilis Barkas here, but it is a difficult issue.

"Not least because there are now other clubs also interested after his successful season."

Barkas has featured 32 times in all competitions for Utrecht this season. His side currently sit seventh in the standings with four league outings to play this campaign.
