SALT LAKE CITY -- Gina Zanik, the co-founder of the Rare and Undiagnosed Network (RUN), has been a relentless advocate for children living with autonomic neuropathy, a condition that affects nerve damage and automatic body functions. Her husband, Justin Zanik, the general manager of the Utah Jazz, recently faced a health crisis when he was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) after years without a physical exam.
Justin's diagnosis led to the realization that PKD had a deep history in his family, with his father having undergone a successful kidney transplant. With only 14% kidney function left, Justin needed a transplant urgently to avoid dialysis. The Zaniks embarked on a journey to find a living kidney donor, ultimately finding a match in Jeff Hart, a family friend.
