UT proposes lump sum fine up to ₹2L for bldg misuse violations

CHANDIGARH: The UT administration has proposed to impose lump sum building misuse penalty amount up to Rs 2 lakh instead of area-wise violation that was being demanded by traders and industrialists.

The suggestion was made in a public notice for the amendment of Capital of Punjab (Development and Regulation) Act, 1952, to incorporate enabling provisions for revision of penalty.

The UT has recommended to increase the penalty from the current Rs 500 to Rs 2 lakh. Fine for each day, during which the offence is proved to have continued after the first day, was proposed to be increased from Rs 20 to Rs 8,000 per day.
