CHANDIGARH: The call detail records (CDR) of mobile phones used by power department union leaders are being obtained by the Chandigarh administration to examine their role in the strike. This was stated in an affidavit submitted by Chandigarh deputy commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh in the Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday.

“The Chandigarh police has already procured CCTV footage of Sood Bhawan and attendance registers of all the sub-stations to investigate the matter…the CDRs of mobile phones used by the leaders are being obtained and will be scrutinised to examine their role in the strike,” read the affidavit.

It stated, “As far as damage and sabotage caused to the infrastructure of the electricity wing is concerned, the Chandigarh police has already procured DVRs covering sub-stations and these are being sent to the CFSL for retrieving the footage. Once the investigation is completed, recovery proceedings against the culprits will be initiated in view of the directions issued by the Supreme Court pertaining to the destruction of public and private properties.”

The affidavit stated, “Based on the list of non-joining of 143 employees, the electricity wing of the engineering department initiated disciplinary action against the delinquent employees and services of 17 were terminated with immediate effect and disciplinary action under the Punjab Civil Services (Punishment and Appeal) Rules, 1970, as applicable to UT Chandigarh was initiated against 126 employees.
