Christian Pulisic scored the United States men’s national team’s only goal during Tuesday’s men’s World Cup match vs. Iran, only to suffer an injury in the process.
Pulisic ran onto a headed cross from Sergiño Dest and tapped it home, but he ended up crashing into Iran goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand in the net. The American didn’t get up for a few moments as he writhed in apparent pain. He received treatment in the goal and then continued to be evaluated on the sidelines.
The American captain left the game for a few minutes but returned for the end of the first half. U.S. manager Gregg Berhalter then elected to replace Pulisic with Brenden Aaronson to open the second half.
