A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck off the coast of El Salvador on Wednesday, sending tremors into the capital and drawing attention to renewed seismic activity along the country's Pacific coast.
The earthquake occurred at a depth of about 56.8 kilometres (35.5 miles), according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The offshore location and moderate depth helped limit the immediate impact on populated areas, with no immediate reports of major damage or casualties.
