USC quarterback Caleb Williams will not throw at this week’s NFL combine

USC quarterback and presumed No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, Caleb Williams, will not throw or work out at this week’s NFL combine.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Williams will wait until his pro day at USC to throw and work out for NFL teams. This is not uncommon as top quarterbacks often skip throwing and working out for teams at the combine, instead choosing only to go through the interview process with teams.

Williams, the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner, had another statistically successful season in 2023. However, USC took a step back, and Williams received undeserved criticism for often trying to do too much.

Williams has long been considered the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. The Chicago Bears hold the No. 1 overall choice and currently have Justin Fields. Many believe the Bears will trade Fields and choose Williams.

If the Bears pass on Williams, he will not go lower than second overall where his hometown Washington Commanders select.

Williams is not incentivized to work out or throw for NFL teams at the combine. He will be selected at No. 1 overall in all likelihood, but will certainly not fall out of the top two, leaving only two teams with a realistic shot at his services.
