A journalism professor at the University of Southern California has openly expressed his lack of trust in key university leaders, Provost Andrew Guzman and President Carol Folt, following a series of decisions related to campus demonstrations. In an open letter published in a student publication, the professor, Mike Ananny, PhD, who is an associate professor of communications and journalism at USC, criticized the university's handling of recent events.
One of the key issues highlighted in the letter was the decision to cancel the valedictorian commencement speech by Asna Tabassum due to safety concerns. Ananny pointed out that the university did not allocate the same resources to ensure the safety of Tabassum's speech as it has in other security contexts.
