US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin affirmed the United States' unwavering commitment to safeguarding Israel against Iran and its proxy groups. During two conversations with Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant, Austin expressed full support for Israel's right to self-defense.
The discussions took place following a series of intensified Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon, resulting in the demise of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Austin assured that the US stands firmly behind Israel's defense and will maintain a presence in the region to ensure the protection of US forces and facilities.
Furthermore, Austin emphasized that the US will take measures to prevent Iran, as well as other Iranian-backed entities or their proxies, from taking advantage of the situation in Lebanon or escalating the conflict.
