The US State Department has issued a fresh security alert urging Americans in the Middle East to exercise heightened vigilance and consider departing the region, citing the potential for sudden escalation involving Iran.
The advisory, issued on August 1, warned that the security environment remains complex "with the potential for unforeseen escalation" and that Americans in the region should be prepared for flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures and other travel disruptions. It added that some airlines in the region have postponed the resumption of earlier flight schedules, while others have cancelled routes altogether.
