Foreign investors purchased an estimated $103 billion worth of U.S. long-term securities in April while increasing their holdings of U.S. Treasury securities by $4 billion, according to the U.S. Treasury Department's latest Treasury International Capital (TIC) report released on Thursday. The data provides a fresh snapshot of overseas appetite for U.S. assets amid heightened scrutiny of global capital flows.
Among the largest foreign holders of U.S. Treasuries, Japan raised its holdings to $1.21 trillion in April from $1.19 trillion a month earlier, according to the Treasury report cited by Reuters. The United Kingdom also increased its holdings to $938 billion from $927 billion, while China's Treasury portfolio edged down to $651 billion from $652 billion.
