US State Department Urges Israel To Investigate Allegations

U.S. Secretary of State Blinken meets with Chinese Communist Party International Liaison Department Minister at the State Department

The US State Department has expressed deep concern over allegations of sexual abuse of Palestinian detainees by Israeli soldiers, calling the reports 'horrific.' A State Department spokesperson emphasized the need for a swift and thorough investigation into the matter.

During a press briefing, the spokesperson stated, 'There ought to be zero tolerance of any sexual abuse, rape, of any detainees, period.' The State Department urged the Israeli government to take immediate action to address the allegations and hold those responsible accountable.

Israeli media recently obtained leaked surveillance video that purportedly showed Israeli soldiers engaging in sexual assault against a Palestinian detainee. The disturbing footage has sparked outrage and calls for justice.

In response to the allegations, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced the arrests of individuals allegedly involved in the abuse and launched an investigation into the matter. The State Department deemed these actions as appropriate steps towards addressing the issue.

A recent report released by the UN Human Rights Office highlighted the widespread mistreatment of Palestinian detainees from the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The report documented cases of torture, abuse, and sexual violence against detainees, with at least 53 individuals reported to have died while in detention since October 7.

The State Department reiterated the importance of upholding human rights and ensuring the protection of all detainees. It called on the Israeli government to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations and take decisive action to prevent any further instances of abuse.
