US senator raves about the Tartan Army, makes special 'proposition' amid Boston exit

Massachusetts state senator Paul Feeney has urged the Tartan Army to make an annual return to Boston after hailing the impact of Scotland supporters on the city.

Tens of thousands of fans descended on Massachusetts in recent days, leaving a strong impression on locals with their celebrations, charity work and trademark humour.

Feeney paid tribute to the travelling support as they began to leave for their next World Cup destination, praising both their spirit and conduct throughout their stay. He said: “This message is for Scotland and the Tartan Army, first of all, we love you.

“You have come to Massachusetts, you have come to Boston, you have come to Foxborough. First of all, you literally drank all of our beers, so now we have to restock that.

“You’ve been playing the bagpipes everywhere, you’ve been singing, chanting and even putting traffic cones on the heads of our historic statues.

“But more than that, you have visited children’s hospitals, made donations to local charities and brought music into our neighbourhoods. You’ve been courteous, polite and great fun.”

The Democrat politician revealed he is keen to see Scotland fans return on a regular basis and even floated the idea of annual fixtures in the state.

Feeney added: “I don’t want this to end, so here’s my proposition, let’s make this an annual thing.

“Let’s work with the Governor, the Kraft organisation and Gillette Stadium to bring you back every summer.

“Maybe you could play the US men’s national team, Ireland or whoever it takes, just get back here year after year.

“We promise we’ll restock the beer. You’ve been fantastic guests and we’d love to have you back.

“As I’ve heard thousands of times this week, no Scotland, no party.”
