US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has announced plans to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to discuss coordination on Syria. The focus of the meeting will be on preventing any actor, whether inside or outside the country, from prioritizing their narrow self-interests over the well-being of the Syrian people.
Before departing Jordan for Turkey, Blinken informed reporters that he had engaged in numerous calls with regional partners who all agreed on the necessity of a unified approach to advance shared interests. He also mentioned speaking with Jordanian King Abdullah and Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi during his time in Jordan to strengthen this unified approach towards Syria.
Expressing the US commitment to preventing the growth of ISIS in Syria following the rebellion against Bashar al-Assad's regime, Blinken emphasized the determination of the United States to thwart any resurgence of the terrorist group. He highlighted the ongoing efforts to combat ISIS and reiterated the importance of continued cooperation among nations to address the security challenges in the region.
During his upcoming discussions with Turkish officials, Blinken aims to further solidify cooperation and coordination on Syria, emphasizing the need for a collective approach to address the complex dynamics in the region. The meetings with President Erdogan and Foreign Minister Fidan are expected to focus on strategic planning and collaborative efforts to promote stability and security in Syria.
