The United States has recently reached a plea deal with alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and two other defendants, as confirmed by the Defense Department. Mohammed, also known as KSM, was apprehended in Pakistan back in 2003 due to his suspected involvement in the tragic terror attacks that shook the nation.
In 2008, Mohammed was formally charged with a range of offenses, including conspiracy, murder in violation of the law of war, attacking civilians, attacking civilian objects, intentionally causing serious bodily injury, destruction of property in violation of the law of war, and terrorism and material support of terrorism. The US had previously expressed its intention to pursue the death penalty for Mohammed.
Additionally, Walid Muhammad Salih Mubarak Bin ‘Attash and Mustafa Ahmed Adam al Hawsawi have also entered into plea agreements, as per the Pentagon's announcement. These individuals have agreed to plead guilty to conspiracy charges in return for a life sentence instead of facing the death penalty, as reported by The New York Times.
