NEW YORK: Elina Svitolina is wearing the crown in yet another Grand Slam in 2023. The Ukrainian rallied splendidly to beat Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the second round.
The world No. 26, who returned from maternity leave in April with her ranking outside the 1000 mark, is seeded 28 this fortnight. Svitolina took a 4-0 lead in the decider, but Pavlyuchenkova won the next three games to put the former world No.3 on the edge. At the changeover Svitolina had an unusual question for the chair umpire.
