Two top White House officials have returned to Washington DC after engaging in discussions to address conflicts in the Middle East. The meetings, which took place prior to the election, did not yield concrete resolutions on issues such as Gaza and Lebanon.
Israeli forces launched strikes in Beirut shortly after the officials' visit, resulting in significant destruction, as reported by Lebanon's state news agency.
The US official characterized the discussions as 'substantive' and 'constructive,' with a focus on various issues including Iran, Lebanon, Gaza, and the release of hostages. Efforts were particularly concentrated on securing a ceasefire in Lebanon to ensure the safe return of individuals to their homes and on initiatives to secure the prompt release of hostages held by Hamas.
Meetings were held with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Minister for Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer, Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant, and other senior Israeli officials. Secretary of State Antony Blinken acknowledged progress in implementing UN Security Council 1701 to bring an end to the conflict in Lebanon but emphasized that further work is required.
