The Biden administration has clarified that there are currently no serious discussions regarding the delisting of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) from its designation as a terrorist organization. HTS, one of the rebel groups involved in the recent offensive against the Assad regime in Syria, has been under scrutiny by the US.
White House national security spokesman John Kirby stated that there are no ongoing talks about changing the policy towards HTS. Kirby emphasized that the US is closely monitoring the actions of the group, particularly its leader, Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, who has been making positive statements.
Kirby highlighted the importance of observing HTS's actions and assessing whether they follow through on their commitments. He mentioned that it is not the appropriate time for a serious discussion about delisting any group at this moment.
The US government is actively engaging with HTS and all Syrian rebel factions. Kirby confirmed that communication channels are open with these groups, and efforts are being made to maintain dialogue and gather information.
