President Donald Trump has suggested renaming the Strait of Hormuz as "Trump Strait," despite the fact that the crucial waterway remains contested amid the war with Iran.
"Now that we have it under U.S.A. control, should we change the name Hormuz Strait to TRUMP STRAIT??? Like America itself, it would be 'hotter' than ever before!" Trump said on his Truth Social network.
Iran seizes ship smuggling fuel in Gulf, state media reports
Iranian border guards have seized a vessel with 382,000 litres of smuggled fuel in the northern Gulf, and arrested its foreign crew of 11, according to state broadcaster IRIB.
The report did not provide the nationalities of the detained.
Iran, which has some of the world's lowest fuel prices due to heavy subsidies and a sharp fall in the value of its national currency, has been seeking to curb widespread fuel smuggling by land to neighbouring countries and by sea to Gulf states.
Netanyahu says 'we are not retreating' during Gaza visit
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has visited Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip, where he vowed not to pull back troops despite a recent push by mediators to advance a US-backed ceasefire plan calling for their withdrawal.
It was the first time Netanyahu has visited the war-shattered territory since the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas came into effect in October 2025.
"We control the area. We are not retreating. We are staying on this line," Netanyahu said near the so-called Yellow Line, which demarcates the areas under Hamas and Israeli military control.
"We control 60 percent of the Strip, and we are not stopping, because we are eliminating the terrorists who threaten us, day in and day out."
Israel ready to remove Gaza population if US gives approval, defence minister says
Israel has plans ready to remove Palestinians from the Gaza Strip but is waiting for the US to figure out where to take them, said Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz
"There is no real solution for Gaza in the end without this migration," Katz told a conference hosted by Israeli news site Ynet and newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth.
The Israeli government "is organised and prepared to get them out -- by sea, by air, by every way possible", he said.
The US embassy in Israel referred requests for comment to the State Department in Washington.
US CENTCOM denies targeting civilians after Iranian wedding strike reports
US Central Command has denied targeting civilians after Iranian media reported at least four people were killed in a US strike on a wedding in Sirik, southern Iran.
"The US military never targets civilians, unlike the Revolutionary Guards," CENTCOM told Reuters on Wednesday.

Iraq boosted its oil exports in August, with September shipments also set to climb, as wide profits and Iranian approval for its tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz have encouraged buyers, according
to industry sources and shipping data.
The recovery in exports for OPEC's second-largest producer, which had been severely curtailed by the near-closure of the Strait of Hormuz since the US and Israel started the Iran war on February 28, improves the supply of heavy high-sulphur crude to major importers China and India.
Iraq's oil exports rose to around 2.34 million barrels per day in August from about 1.35 million bpd in July, two Iraqi energy officials said on Wednesday.
Provisional data from shiptracking firms Vortexa and Kpler pegged Iraqi crude exports in August at 2.3 million and 2.17 million bpd, respectively, up from July's level but below February's pre-war level of 3.7 million and 3.362 million bpd.
"Iraq has been giving heavy discounts ... which has incentivised buyers to find shipping options to get the cargoes out," Sparta Commodities' senior analyst June Goh said.
Also, Tehran granted permission for a number of Iraqi oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, Iran's state news agency IRNA reported last week.
While it is unclear whether the permission applies to all Iraqi cargoes, Iraq is the only Gulf producer that has explicitly received a permit, Sparta's Goh said.
Israeli strike on southern Lebanon kills one
An Israeli strike on south Lebanon killed one person, Lebanese official media said, while Israel said it targeted Hezbollah in retaliation for an attack targeting its soldiers in the south.
"One person was killed and another wounded in a strike launched by an enemy drone" in the city of Nabatieh, Lebanon's state-run National News Agency (NNA) said, also reporting other Israeli strikes on the area.
Israel's army said the Iran-backed Hezbollah group overnight "launched two explosive drones" towards Israeli soldiers in Ali al-Taher Ridge area, reporting no troop casualties.
In response, the Israeli military said it struck Hezbollah infrastructure in the Nabatieh area.
Israel has recently increased its attacks on south Lebanon, particularly in the Nabatieh area where the strategic Ali al-Taher ridge is located.
Lebanon's health ministry says Israeli attacks have killed at least 8,920 people since hostilities initially erupted in October 2023, after Hezbollah launched rockets at Israel in support of its Palestinian ally Hamas over the Gaza conflict.
Iran security chief says US to face new war strategy from Tehran after strikes
Iran's security chief warned the United States would face a "new strategy" from Tehran in the Middle East war after the heaviest exchange of attacks between the foes in weeks.
"You will soon see that Iran's new strategy on the battlefield, in diplomacy and in confronting the economic blockade will shatter your foundations," Iran's Supreme National Security Council secretary Mohsen Rezaei posted on X.
