The US military recently completed a significant aid delivery operation off the coast of Gaza, with over 1,000 metric tons of aid being transported through a temporary pier. According to a post by US Central Command on X, formerly Twitter, a total of 1,384 metric tons (equivalent to 3.04 million pounds) of aid were delivered to the beach in Gaza over the weekend. This included a record-breaking offloading of 720 metric tons (1.58 million pounds) on Sunday, marking the largest single-day aid delivery to date.
Despite the successful delivery of aid to the beach, the forward distribution of the aid by the World Food Programme has been temporarily halted. This pause comes as the organization conducts a risk assessment following operations carried out by the Israeli Defense Forces near the pier, which were part of hostage rescue efforts.
US CENTCOM emphasized that the pier has been operating without interruption since it was re-anchored last week. The pier had been dismantled from the beach in anticipation of adverse weather conditions, but was swiftly re-established to facilitate the aid delivery mission.
