A visit to a QuikTrip convenience store turned into an unexpected food debate after a Texas TikTok creator questioned how the chain’s ranch dressing could sit unrefrigerated for what appeared to be an extended period of time. Hunter Lee Dunsirn (@hunterleedunsirn) on TikTok shared a video with the text overlay: “What is QuickTrip putting in their ranch dressing that makes it safe to sit out for 2 weeks, opened and unrefrigerated?”
In the caption, Dunsirn made it clear that his criticism came with some affection for the chain. “@QT Is the holy grail of gas stations. But I can’t help but wonder what’s going on with their ranch dressing,” he wrote.
The video sparked plenty of speculation in the comments, with many viewers joking about the dressing’s ingredients rather than offering evidence about how it is made or stored. “My girlfriend tried some and was a fart machine for two days,” one commenter claimed.
Could “sauce” be the answer?
Another viewer suggested a possible explanation based on food labeling rather than storage practices, writing: “anytime something says ‘sauce’ after the name where it wouldn’t normally say it means that product is a flavored imitation, like ‘honey sauce’ vs actual honey.”

As for the food safety question, whether ranch dressing can safely remain at room temperature depends on the product itself. Shelf-stable condiments receive specialized processing and packaging that allow unopened containers to remain on store shelves without refrigeration.
Once opened, however, manufacturers typically instruct consumers to refrigerate them. Food safety guidance also notes that opened perishable foods should not remain at room temperature for more than about two hours.
One that note, someone commented, “Is everyone’s ranch not in the regular [aisles] at stores … ?? It’s never in the cold section lol.” But someone responded, “yeah and then you put it in the fridge once you open it?? that’s the problem here, it’s opened and just sitting out.”
QuikTrip, commonly known as QT, operates more than 1,100 convenience stores across nearly 20 states and has built a loyal following for its made-to-order food, beverages, and customer service. It is not possible to determine whether it complied with the manufacturer’s storage recommendations.
