US, Israel strikes in Tehran: India issues advisory, urges Indians to exercise 'utmost caution'

NEW DELHI: India on Saturday issued an advisory urging its citizens in both Iran and Israel to exercise "utmost caution and remain vigilant." The advisory comes after Israel and US launched a "preemptive strike" on Iran.

"The State of Israel has launched a preemptive strike against Iran. Defence minister Israel Katz has declared a special and immediate state of emergency throughout the country," a ministry statement said.

As the situation escalated, sirens sounded across Israel and citizens received phone alerts warning of an "extremely serious" threat.

The embassy urged Indian nationals to strictly follow safety guidelines issued by Israeli authorities and the Home Front Command, the statement said.

It advised citizens to remain close to designated shelters and to familiarise themselves with the nearest protected spaces near their residence or workplace.

Indian nationals have also been told to avoid all non-essential and unnecessary travel within Israel until further notice.

The advisory further encouraged people to regularly monitor local news, official announcements and emergency alerts for updates. The embassy said it remains in close contact with relevant authorities and will continue to issue updates as required.
