US is planning to spend up to $2 million on robot dogs for high-risk immigration operations

The US government plans to spend up to $2 million on robot dogs for use in high-risk immigration operations, NBC News reported, citing a Department of Homeland Security procurement notice.

The robots, made by Boston Dynamics, would help immigration officers inspect dangerous or difficult-to-access areas without putting themselves at immediate risk. A senior DHS official told NBC News that the machines would not be used to make arrests.
