Senior officials have taken the precautionary measure of closing the US embassy in Lebanon to the public following an attempted attack by a gunman on Wednesday. The motive behind the attack remains undisclosed as per a source at the embassy.
A security alert issued by the embassy advised American citizens in Lebanon to refrain from traveling to the border with Israel and refugee settlements. The alert also cautioned against participating in or being near demonstrations and large gatherings in any part of Lebanon.
Authorities are actively collaborating with local law enforcement as they investigate the attempted attack. The embassy is scheduled to resume normal operations on Thursday.
The region has been a focal point of tension, particularly between the Israeli military and Hezbollah, a formidable paramilitary force in the Middle East. Recent months have seen heightened hostilities between the two parties.
