The Trump administration accused China of "coercion and aggression" after Beijing imposed sanctions on government ministers from Paraguay and Belize over their countries' diplomatic relations with Taiwan, reaffirming Washington's support for the island and its remaining allies.
"The Trump administration opposes China's coercion and aggression against countries in our hemisphere for exercising their sovereign rights," State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said in a statement reported by Reuters. "We stand with our friends and partners, including Taiwan, to advance our shared prosperity, security, and values."
