US Capitol Police have arrested an individual who allegedly physically accosted Rep. Nancy Mace on Capitol grounds. The incident occurred on Tuesday, prompting Mace to speak out about the importance of protecting women's safety.

Mace, a South Carolina Republican, took to social media to share her experience, stating that she was attacked while advocating for women's rights. She praised the Capitol Police for swiftly apprehending the suspect and emphasized that threats and violence would not deter her from her mission.

Following the altercation, Mace revealed that she sustained minor injuries, including a wrist brace and arm discomfort, but assured her followers that she would recover.

The Capitol Police confirmed receiving a report of the incident from a congressional office in the Rayburn Office Building. Officers from the Threat Assessment Section located and arrested the suspect, who now faces charges of assaulting a government official.

Mace's recent actions, such as introducing a resolution to restrict transgender women from using women's restrooms in federal facilities, have garnered attention. Her legislative efforts coincide with the election of Sarah McBride, the first openly transgender individual to be elected to Congress.
