US-bound flight forced into emergency landing at Scottish airport

A PASSENGER plane travelling to America from Germany has made an emergency landing in Scotland.

The United Airlines flight was travelling from Frankfurt to Chicago and issued a 700-squawk code, which signals an emergency onboard.

It has been reported the pilot declared an emergency just one hour into the nine-hour journey as the plane crossed the border into Scotland shortly after 9am.

The airplane was then diverted to Edinburgh Airport where it safely landed at around 9.48am.

It has been reported that the diversion was due to a medical emergency onboard.

Edinburgh Airport has confirmed the plane was diverted.

A spokesperson for United Airlines said: "United flight 945 from Frankfurt to Chicago O’Hare diverted to Edinburgh to address a medical issue with a passenger.

"The flight was met by medical personnel on arrival, and subsequently, the flight departed for Chicago O’Hare."
