Urgent warning over 'NHS' scam texts draining bank accounts

There are a number of scams currently circulating relating to everything from Covid-19 to the cost of living.

And many argue that it's getting harder to spot a scam, leading to millions across the UK falling victim to fraud. It comes as Money Saving Expert has warned against three convincing scams targeting people who need financial help amid the cost of living crisis.

However another scam now doing the rounds is all to do with Covid-19 where crooks are pretending to be NHS staff.

Taking to their website to warn consumers, Which? have said that scammers are linking fake websites in their texts.

The consumer experts said: "The text message claims to be a tracing notification and tells you that you’ve been exposed to the omicron covid variant and need to take a test. Reports of this scam show the message is coming from 07874269207, 07874285262 and 07874284325."

The message reads, 'We’ve been notified you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 (Omicron). Please order a mandatory test via: [health-department-uk.com]'.

This what what the text could look like. (Which?)

With scams becoming more and more convincing, people are warned not to click on the link. Which? stated that the "security settings on our browser prevented us from accessing this website and warned us that it contained adware or spyware which will most likely download to your device."

Those who receive this text should not click on the link or reply to it. They should forward the message to 7726 free reporting service provided by telecoms companies.

The number must then be blocked and deleted. If, however targets have already already clicked the link and given away personal information, they must contact their bank immediately and report the scam to Action Fraud.
