An urgent safety warning has been issued in Bingham following the closure of a busy route.
The level crossing at Chapel Lane, Bingham, will be closed this week in order that Western Power Distribution (WPD) can install a new underground electricity cable which will supply the new leisure centre down the road.
But during the closure, WPD said its teams have been alarmed to see drivers move safety barriers and drive over the crossing, despite of clear diversion signs. Trains are continuing to use the line while the crossing is closed.
Dave Hewitt, WPD Distribution Manager for Nottingham, said: “We’ve been extremely concerned to discover that some drivers have moved safety barriers and driven over the crossing, which is clearly an extremely dangerous thing to do. We would urge all road users not to venture onto the line and, if possible, to use the signposted diversion route for the short time that the work is taking place.”
The road is due to be closed from Monday January 24 until Friday January 28 to allow for the cable laying work to be completed.
